About Alliance Française de Durban

Learn French with the Experts

Alliance Française de Durban is a long-standing South African non-profit organisation supported by the Embassy of France in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi that promotes the French language and cultural diversity. For nearly 90 years, it has been the city’s leading centre for learning French and the only accredited DELF/DALF and TEF examination centre in Durban.

The Alliance Française de Durban offers a dynamic, nomadic cultural programme, working in partnership with education, arts and culture institutions across the city. Classes are offered both online and in various locations throughout Durban for private and corporate groups.

After more than 30 years in Morningside, Alliance Française de Durban has transitioned to a modern, city-wide model built on a network of strategic locations. This new approach strengthens our ability to deliver on our core mission: promoting French language, culture, and international engagement to a wide spectrum of audiences — university students, children, young professionals, senior executives, culture enthusiasts, and committed adult learners.

Following public consultations held after the sale of its historic Morningside building in 2025, the Alliance Française de Durban is currently developing its new institutional project for 2026.
